Beyond the Yangtze

The regions we explore on our South China Adventures....

The Yangtze River Catchment Area: Showing it's origin in the Qinghai / Tibetan Plateau, it's various tributaries and final exit into the East China Sea at Shanghai, some 6000km from its source.

Note that the Yangtze is known as the Jinsha (Golden Sand) prior to its intersection with the Min River at Yibin City, Sichuan province.

DIVERSE GEOGRAPHY & LANDSCAPES

South China, Beyond the Yangtze, has so much to offer the adventurous traveller. From the snow covered peaks of the Tibetan Plateau in Northern Yunnan province, to the wetlands, rivers and lakes of the Yangtze Delta . Many of the locations we visit will give you the feeling of stepping into a classical Chinese Landscape Painting.

There are twenty UNESCO Recognized World Heritage sites listed in China for their outstanding natural landscapes and biodiversity. Of these fourteen are located in the regions South of the Yangtze and on our Beyond the Yangtze headline adventure we visit five of these sites! On our Spring into Yunnan series we also visit five.

These unique landscapes provide numerous opportunities for the adventurous traveller. From hiking ancient stone-paved trails, to ascending in gondolas to the mountain-tops, or polling down rivers on a bamboo raft.
